We started off the day working in the childcare center. Here are some of the activities we did:
  • Read books to the younger kids
  • Played outside
  • Had snack time with the kids
  • Snuggled with babies

Next we went to the Field of Dreams with the day hab clients (a daily group at Hills and Dales that assists clients ages 18 and up with many skills) and:
  • Had a picnic with the day hab clients
  • Took many pictures
  • Played baseball with the day hab clients
  • Waited out the rain to go on the baseball field

After that, we went and explored the Crystal Lake Caves and:
  • Got a tour of the caves
  • Some people hit their heads
  • Got our feet wet in puddles
  • Got our shirts dirty
  • Had lots of fun!!
We ended the night with a discussion about different types of disabilities. We did an activity to show how different individuals have different disabilities. The activity was, everyone had a partner and there where two pictures. One partner had to look at a picture and describe it while the other partner drew what the person is describing without knowing what the picture was. The next round the partners switched jobs, but the person describing the picture only got to look at the picture for a minute. This helped us understand the difficulties and challenges people with disabilities face everyday.

So wonderful that you are not only helping people with disabilities, but you are also learning about what it’s like to have a disability.
